The Vet

Having a
good vet for your favorite best friend is so important,
not only to the dog, but your peace of mind.
Having someone you can trust and talk with helps solve
so many problems. There is a wealth of information
on the internet about dog problems and diseases, but the
best advice will come from your own vet.
Generally, most dogs visit the vet at least once a year
for their annual shots. Rabies shots are given
either every two or three years depending on the state
you live in. It is usually recommended to keep
your dog on Heartworm medicine year around too.
Usually people say – I have never heard of a dog having
heartworms. But it is very prevalent in many states
including ones where there is a cold winter. Heartworms
come from mosquito bites. So anywhere mosquitoes live
and thrive during warm weather, there is a threat of
heartworms to dogs. The Springer Rescue Group I belong
to has pulled so many dogs that required treatment for
heartworms. It is very hard on a dogs system to be
treated for heartworms and can be fatal. So PLEASE
consider keeping your favorite friend on heartworm
medicine year around and have them checked with a
heartworm test each spring.
